You work for the magazine/gallery Art Prostitute. How instrumental
has AP been in bringing new artists to Denton, Texas?
In my opinion
AP has been vital for bringing a new optimism to the Denton Art
community, especially for the younger art crowd. Many of the artists
that show in our gallery would of never even of shown in TX in
the first place if it wasn't for AP. Many of the artists who come
have not even been to TX before. That is why it is so much fun
to hang out with them while they are
here. It definately gives most local artists an edge when they
participate in the AP fun. Mark and Brian have done an incredible
job of cultivating creativity in the area.
When
I first went through your work I immediately knew your designs
would look killer on a t-shirt. Tell us something about
the design you did for SH.
The image
of multiple skull headed serpants all intertwined with each other
was first a doodle I did when I was in my Sex Roles class. The
serpants themselves come from the many menacing rattle snakes
found on my Grandfather's farm and the idea that those fuckers
can kill you if you don't kill them first. So what if the snakes
can shoot lasers from there eyes?
Are
there any artists you've discoved recently that should be receiveing
more attention?
Besides my
friends that make art for fun, I really enjoy Leif Goldberg, Dear
Raindrop, and Reed Anderson. I met this guy named Garrison from
New York who is doing this collective called Peripheral Media
Pprojects. Also Steve and Jonah from Feedtank.
Do
you have any showings coming up or any other news we should be
aware of?
July 9th at
Gray Matters, Art Prostitute is doing a one night show to raise
money for paper. Mark, Brian and I will be selling reasonably
priced paintings. On September 10th we are also being featured
at the Continental Lofts in Dallas with Scott Abel. Also the issue
of AP will be coming out July 23rd in which I will have an illustration
in. The last thing is the Super 7 robot show which will feature
Brian, Mark and I 's painting of robots.
